Dorchester GOP County Convention This Week; Here Are The Announced Candidates:

Monday April 19th

Editorial Team

DORCHESTER COUNTY – The Dorchester County Republican Party is hosting their Bi-Annual County Convention this Saturday at 8:00am at the Rollins Edwards Community Center in Summerville. If you haven’t already registered as a delegate at the meetings prior you will be unable to vote in the Convention unfortunately. Party leaders are strictly requiring Photo ID to enter the Convention.

So far the story line behind this convention has centered around current DCRP Chairman Tim Higgins and challenger Steven Wright. Higgins has been Chairman for 7 years and Wright has a background assisting local Republican Candidates in their campaigns. County Convention delegates will choose which vision they want for the future of their party between Wright and Higgins.

Down the ballot for Vice Chairman the choice will be between two female candidates Donna Klim and Diana Johnson. The only other contested race will be for State Executive Committeeman between Peggy Bangle and Joe Cali. It is possible more candidates will announce for positions the day of the convention.

All candidates mentioned are invited onto our platform to be transparent about their vision for the future of the DCRP and to answer questions live from the public this week. Or they are more than welcome to submit a written editorial that Summerville Sentinel can publish on our site and in our Facebook group.

Electing Peggy Bangle would be a mistake for our county. In my opinion, she lacks the vision to bring about improvement of and/or new strategic policy goals to ensure growth and sustainability of the party and incumbents, nor suited, tactically and politically, to make substancial progress for the party!

I respect Tim Higgins! He is a bright, personable, and likable man! However, what has he accomplished in his last term……other than forward the emails of the SCGOP and Dorchester County GOP Executive Committee representative, administered (not necessarily moderated) monthly DCRP meetings, distributed campaign signs, relied on the unproductive advice of a detached and disinterested DCRP sub-chairman, and didn’t build a coherent communication process. It’s time we made a change for our party!
